Every answer below describes behaviour verified in the application, not intended behaviour. Where something is a known limit, it says so — a support page that hides limits generates the tickets it was written to prevent.
Getting started
1. Run the first scan
Dashboard → Run First Scan. Rudy reads your products and scores each one twice: once for search engines, once for how well an AI shopping assistant can understand it.
There is nothing to set up first. AI is included in every plan — you do not connect an AI provider and you are not billed by one.
2. Optimize a product
Products → open a product → ✨ Optimize with AI. Review the proposed title, meta description and agent-readable description, then press Save Changes to write them to the product in Shopify.
3. Optional: show structured data on your storefront
FAQ schema reaches your storefront through the Rudy AEO app embed. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes → Customize, then App embeds, switch on Rudy AEO, and save.
4. Optional: connect your search data
Settings → Connectors. Google Search Console supplies the real queries behind keyword and rank tracking, and the before-and-after measurement. DataForSEO supplies search volumes, on an account of your own that DataForSEO bills you for.
Frequently asked
Will this change my live store?
Only your products, and only the changes you save. The app writes the titles, meta descriptions and SEO fields you approve. It reads your theme and your pages but never changes either. The Rudy AEO app embed adds structured data to your storefront only while you have it switched on.
How do I undo a change?
- One product: open it and use Version History. The state from before the first scan is kept, so the original is always one of the options.
- The whole catalogue: on the Dashboard, after a bulk optimization, press Restore originals. It puts every product back to how it was before the app first changed it — in Shopify, not only in our records.
Do I need an account with an AI provider?
No. The AI is included and runs on our accounts. Your plan's token allowance is the limit, and the Plans tab shows how much is left.
A keyword report says something is missing
Keyword and rank reports need Google Search Console, DataForSEO, or both, connected under Settings → Connectors. The report names what it is missing; nothing else in the app depends on them.
What happens when I uninstall?
The changes saved to your products stay, because they are your store's data. If you want the original copy back, use Restore originals before uninstalling. Your data on our side is deleted as the privacy policy describes; to have it removed sooner, write to [email protected].
Can the app build or redesign my storefront?
No. The app does not create, install or edit themes. Earlier versions could; that was withdrawn on 14 October 2026.
Known limits
Stated plainly, because you will meet them:
| Limit | What happens |
|---|---|
| Products per plan | Bulk optimization starts up to your plan's product limit and tells you how many it did not start. |
| Token allowance | When it runs out, AI work is declined with a message and a link to change plan, until the next billing period. |
| FAQ schema needs the app embed | Until Rudy AEO is switched on and saved in the theme editor, the FAQ schema is stored but not shown. |
| Search volumes need DataForSEO | Without a DataForSEO account connected, keyword volumes are not available. |
| Before-and-after needs Search Console | The comparison uses your own Search Console data, so it needs it connected and some weeks of data on each side of the change. |
Reporting a problem
The more of this you can include, the faster it gets resolved:
- Your store domain
- What you were doing, and what you expected instead
- The product, if one was involved
- Roughly when it happened
Please do not send passwords or keys. We never need them, and we will not ask for them.

Keep the "Known limits" section as the app changes. It is the part that prevents tickets, and it is the part that silently goes stale — on 2026-10-14 this page still told merchants to connect their own AI provider, a month after that setting was removed.
